G*H’s Halley Beagle and Sam Nash are teaming up to bring you this encore presentation of one of our most popular classes! Halley and Sam will cover the basics of houseplant care and delve into the more complex nuances of houseplant husbandry.  This class is a great learning opportunity for both beginners and folks with an intermediate level of houseplant experience.

  • Identifying & troubleshooting problems

Interactive Walking Tour:  Pollinator Gardening
Saturday, Sept. 15:  9:00-10:30am
$10 general admission/$5 Homestead Atlanta members

Butterflies, bees, hummingbirds, and more!  G*H’s resident pollinator guru, Halley Beagle, leads this fun and engaging educational walk-and-talk  discusses the many ways in which you can make your landscape a veritable buffet for all sorts of pollinator friends. Halley isn’t just talking the talk; she’s walking the walk and creating a pollinator sanctuary in her home landscape.  It’s an on-going process that takes several years to bring to fruition – ask her about what she has learned so far!

Topics covered:

  • Pollinator plants for all seasons
  • Flower colors, shapes, heights, and placement
  • Avoiding chemicals and excessive mowing/blowing, and other ways to foster a safe pollinator environment
  • Integrated pest management techniques for handling unwanted pests in the pollinator garden

Note:  The walk-and-talk takes place at the nursery on gravel surfaces. Please wear comfortable walking shoes, and remember to bring sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat, and anything else you might need to tackle the weather.

Fruiting Plants 2018

Class:  Fruiting Plants
Saturday, Sept. 22:  9:00-10:30am
$15 general admission/$10 Homestead Atlanta members

This class will introduce the basics and touch on some of the more confusing aspects of growing fruiting plants.  G*H’s Alex Wilkinson has a wealth of experience tending fruiting plants in orchards and farms throughout the Atlanta area.  Whether you’re a novice ready to make your first foray into fruit-growing or an old-hand looking for feedback on troubleshooting some of the more confounding challenges of fruit cultivation, this class will serve up a bounty of useful information.

Topics covered:

  • Which plants need pollinators to yield fruit
  • Watering and light requirements
  • Pruning, fertilizing, and pest/disease control
  • How/when to harvest

This is your chance to get all the dirt on the methods behind our madness!

During tour we’ll discuss:

  • The physical layout of the nursery and why it changes frequently
  • Shopping independent nurseries 101 – How you can help us help you!
  • Signs of healthy plants – how to pick the best specimens
  • What to expect of the nursery during different seasons

Register:  The tour is FREE but registration is required so we’ll know what size crowd to expect.  Sign up with the online form below or by calling Garden*Hood at 404-880-9848.  Please include your full name, phone number, and email.  We fully protect your personal information and will only contact you if we need to reschedule the class due to inclement weather.

Details:  The tour will be held outdoors here at the nursery.  Please dress for the weather (sunscreen, hats, and sun glasses are strongly recommended), and feel free to bring snacks and beverages.  In the event of dangerous or exceptionally inclement weather, the class will be rescheduled.  We’ll call you the morning of the event to alert you of scheduling changes.
