This class pulls elements of a number of other classes – Container Gardening, Veggie Gardening, Gardening 101 – and condenses them into a single syllabus targeting the unique challenges of gardening in small spaces such as on patios, decks, and balconies.

  • Assessing light conditions
  • Planning your planting space: utilizing walls, railings, corners, and overhead space
  • Watering, fertilizing, and pest management
  • The benefits of seasonal change-outs vs. permanent plantings

Saturday, May 19:  9:00-10:30am

This class takes you beyond the basics and delves into the subtler nuances and challenges of poultry husbandry.

Did you know chickens can get hernias? Do you know how to identify and treat ailments such as bumblefoot and mites? We’ll take you beyond the basics to deepen your knowledge of how to maintain a healthy, vigorous back yard flock year round.

Instructor:  Heath Ward of CityChick.  CityChick is an innovative online local business offering everything you need for raising chickens in the city. Heath builds coops, raises chicks, consults with people interested in learning how to care for chickens, and sells feed, treats, and other supplies.

This is your chance to get all the dirt on the methods behind our madness!

During tour we’ll discuss:

  • The physical layout of the nursery and why it changes frequently
  • Shopping independent nurseries 101 – How you can help us help you!
  • Signs of healthy plants – how to pick the best specimens
  • What to expect of the nursery during different seasons

Register:  The tour is FREE but registration is required so we’ll know what size crowd to expect.  Sign up with the online form below or by calling Garden*Hood at 404-880-9848.  Please include your full name, phone number, and email.  We fully protect your personal information and will only contact you if we need to reschedule the class due to inclement weather.

Details:  The tour will be held outdoors here at the nursery.  Please dress for the weather (sunscreen, hats, and sun glasses are strongly recommended), and feel free to bring snacks and beverages.  In the event of dangerous or exceptionally inclement weather, the class will be rescheduled.  We’ll call you the morning of the event to alert you of scheduling changes.
