Class:  Gardening 101

If you’re brand new to planting or new to planting in Atlanta this class provides a friendly introduction to the fundamentals of gardening. This is a safe space where no questions are too basic and nothing is taken for granted. You don’t need to know botanical Latin or how to use fancy tools. We’ll start from the ground up and get you digging into gardening in no time!

Topics covered:

  • How to determine/define light conditions
  • Watering needs/techniques
  • How to select the right plant for the right spot
  • How to plant (digging the hole, prepping the rootball, etc.)

Walk-and-Talk:  Pollinator Gardening
Saturday, April 14:  9:00-10:30am
No charge, but RSVP required!

Butterflies, bees, hummingbirds, and more!  This fun and engaging walk-and-talk  discusses the many ways in which you can make your landscape a veritable buffet for all sorts of pollinator friends.

Topics covered:

  • Pollinator plants for all seasons
  • Flower colors, shapes, heights, and placement
  • Avoiding chemicals and excessive mowing/blowing, and other ways to foster a safe pollinator environment
  • Integrated pest management techniques for managing unwanted pests in the pollinator garden

Note:  The walk-and-talk takes place at the nursery on gravel surfaces. Please wear comfortable walking shoes, and remember to bring sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat, and anything else you might need to tackle the weather.

Workshop:  Succulents!

It’s true:  growing succulents isn’t always as easy as Pinterest leads you to believe.  Join us for a hands-on workshop that will dispel the rumors and reveal the truth to succeeding with succulents!  The workshop fee covers a selection of plants, a pot, and materials for creating your very own succulent dish garden.

  • Selecting the right plants for the right spot
  • Demystifying the watering needs of succulents
  • Hardy vs. tropical succulents

Free admission – registration required*

This is your chance to get all the dirt on the methods behind our madness!

During tour we’ll discuss:

  • The physical layout of the nursery and why it changes frequently
  • Shopping independent nurseries 101 – How you can help us help you!
  • Signs of healthy plants – how to pick the best specimens
  • What to expect of the nursery during different seasons

Register:  The tour is FREE but registration is required so we’ll know what size crowd to expect.  Sign up with the online form below or by calling Garden*Hood at 404-880-9848.  Please include your full name, phone number, and email.  We fully protect your personal information and will only contact you if we need to reschedule the class due to inclement weather.

Details:  The tour will be held outdoors here at the nursery.  Please dress for the weather (sunscreen, hats, and sun glasses are strongly recommended), and feel free to bring snacks and beverages.  In the event of dangerous or exceptionally inclement weather, the class will be rescheduled.  We’ll call you the morning of the event to alert you of scheduling changes.
